Artesano Kenya Chin Strap Straw Panama Hat

The Kenya is Artesano's newest silhouette — and one of their most distinctive. Featuring a flattened brim, an organic cotton chin strap finished with a hand-carved tagua bead adjuster, and a size-adjustable inner band, the Kenya is crafted from light, breathable Mocora straw by skilled artisans in Ecuador. The result is a hat that wears as beautifully as it looks — structured yet relaxed, bohemian yet refined, and built to travel.

About Artesano & Mocora Straw

Artesano is an Ecuadorian brand dedicated to preserving the country’s extraordinary weaving heritage. Mocora straw — harvested from the Mocora palm — is a lightweight, durable natural fibre prized for its fine texture and breathability. Like toquilla straw, Mocora weaving is a centuries-old Ecuadorian craft tradition. Each hat is made entirely by hand, and natural variations in color and texture are part of the beauty and authenticity of every piece.

Styling Notes

The Kenya’s flattened brim and chin strap give it an adventurous, safari-inspired edge that sets it apart from a classic boater or fedora. Maroon adds a rich, unexpected warmth — wear with white linen, a floral sundress, or a resort co-ord for a polished warm-weather look. The chin strap makes it ideal for boat days, beach outings, outdoor weddings, and travel where wind is a factor. The tagua bead detail adds a beautiful artisan finishing touch.

Care & Reshaping

  • Wearing: Use the brim when putting on or removing the hat — avoid crushing the crown
  • Cleaning: Remove stains with a damp cloth and mild soap, dabbing gently. Follow with a clean damp cloth and air dry
  • Reshaping: If the straw has distorted from humidity, lay a damp cloth over the affected area and pass a warm iron over it to reshape. This method also works to adjust the brim direction (up or down)
  • Storing: Store in a cool, dry place on a shelf away from direct sunlight. Avoid contact with water, excess moisture, and heat — straw may become brittle and crack. Do not leave in a hot car
